Building your On-line
Media Kit and tips for getting traffic to your site, including Search
Engine Optimization
Specifically for
Authors and Speakers who want to get results FAST!
Listening to Annie
Jennings PR teleseminars has provided lot's of great inside
track information.
First you
need to provide the info specific to you.
- Bio, long and
short. the short bio is what could be used to introduce you as
a speaker.
- Credentials, education,
achievement, what makes you the expert in THIS field!
- Publications,
books authored, articles, studies, columns, etc.
- Topics. What you
can talk about.
- Soundbites, a
short description of the topic and sub topics
- Segments. These
are posed as a question the interviewer can ask you. Followed
by a few sentences of your response.
- Color picture
of you, preferable taken by a professional photographer. No pets
or other people in the shot. I can touch up photos for blemishes,
whitening teeth and eyes and taking out extraneous background
stuff.
- Color photo or
graphic file of your book cover, if it is already available

We secure a domain name, preferable your own name and/or name of
your book. Then design a set of about 5-6 pages to present the items
listed above. Be encouraged to get more than one site for a variety
of reasons. See Below
Multiple sites are
a good idea.
- One reason is,
you want your media kit to be specifically designed to appeal
to the radio or TV producer.
- Your book site
should be specific to the book, each book could have it's own
site, depending on your business needs.
- It lets you link
to your own sites and that is good.
- Can customize
keywords and phrases to optimize, one or two specific words or
phrases per page.
- Should name your
site with your name, you want people to be able to enter you r
name in a search engine and have YOUR site come up in the top
ten.
- With multiple
sites, ideally when your phrase is entered the Search Engine might
find 5 sites, all yours, in the top ten. They MUST be separate
distinct sites, the Search engines are - oh so - smart and don't
like to be tricked.

Optimize the page(s) for your keywords. Go to Overture tool
and type in some likely candidates. It will tell how many times
a word or phrase has been searched for in the last month. Multiply
by 3 because Overture is one of three top search engines.
For example: My top terms are sex,
sexuality and sexual.
SEX - Wow, probably a lot of competition for the word sex. After
checking Overture I was surprised to find, yes indeed 3.5 MILLION
times someone searched for the word sex on Overture alone. Here's
the important part, there is a long list of phrases using the word
sex. 600,000 searches for "world
sex." Who knew! AND I stand a chance of getting found for
the phrase "world sex" because there is not a lot of competition
for that phrase.
SEXUALITY - "human sexuality"
got over 800 thousand query."sexuality" alone got ~120
thousand all the rest of the phrases including sexuality got less
than 4 thousand. Hmmm, I think Ill be sure to use human sexuality
as a key word
SEXUAL - Sexual intercourse
wins at 156,712 followed by sexual health at 142,048 and sexual
position at 62 thousand.
Decide which words
and combination of phrases best suit your business. Find no more
than 5 Top Phrase/words then 20-25 more related desirable combinations.
We use these in the
title, (very important) description, (sort of important) and keywords.
(not so important) We also sprinkle them strategically into the
content of your page, in case they are not already included in the
content.

Then submit, submit,
submit! Go after links (getting other people to link to your site)
and promote every darn way you can think of.
Realistically it
can take at least 3-6 months before the search engines start to
know about your new site. Promoting your site is an activity to
do at least monthly. Make a few changes to keep it fresh. Submit
at least once a month. And go to the
PR source for updated and useful information
With your ducks in
a row like this it is easy to just point people to your site and
know that they can find your info quickly and easily.
If you are still reading all this, congrats!
One more thing.
Notice how I have set up the series of sex links while I was describing
keywords. Well, as it turns out, using the keyword phrase to link
to your site is a REAL good idea. Rather than having a boring traditional
link like http://taketwoapples.com
Instead, have it say Nutritional
Coaching. Also note that I want to link to both the http://page.com
and the http://www.page.com because the Search Engines thinks these
are two different pages.
